These Facebook responses are from a VIDEO that the BE THE RAVE Facebook page posted. It is of a girl shuffling, and then falling flat on her face. Admittedly, I laughed when I first watched it, but after reading a few of the comments, I was absolutely disgusted at what I was reading. Yes, this girl may not be the thinnest, but who fucking cares?! Yes, she wasn’t covering up her belly, but who fucking cares?! She’s obviously blessed with the confidence and self love to wear what she was wearing. Confidence and self-love that many people aren’t so lucky to have.
Kaskade has said, “…EDM is the one who will accept kids on the outliers, the ones who get bullied, the ones who feel like they may not quite fit in.” Was he lying when he said that? I don’t think so. I think that Kaskade is still right. I still do believe that EDM accepts everyone. I still do believe that EDM has the power to take different people of all ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and body shapes, and unite them as one beautiful entity.
But those people— those BULLIES— who had the nerve to bash this girl, belittle her body size, and basically insinuate that the only acceptable body type there is, is THIN, then I hope to NEVER EVER meet them at any rave. When society thinks that the EDM culture is the devil’s work, and these people aren’t doing anything to disprove society’s predisposed notion of this amazing scene, it seriously makes me want to flip tables.
EDM is supposed to help people be proud of who they are. Skinny, fat, Asian, Mexican, gay, straight, dinosaur, who cares?!?! Society judges us enough as it is, and we don’t need people who claim to be in the scene being rude and belittling to other ravers.
